The Prinz Carl has a long tradition in the restaurant business: Already in the second half of the 18th century guest were entertained here. This is evident from a document which was issued from the "Electoral-Palatinate Exchequer Carl Theodor" to the owner, Peter Koch on 11 October 1788. In it he was awarded the "Justice Shield" and applied, "The guest that comes here are given good rooms, with fine food, drinks, and good will for attention", where he, "Pay no less stately all right and duty no time be endangered."
